80 Level Job Digest: Positions for Artists, Game Engineers & Directors

Ubisoft Toronto, Daniel Mullins Games, Savvy Games Studios, Novablocks, and Wabisabi Games are looking for specialists.

Senior 3D Environment Artist at Daniel Mullins Games

This posting is for remote (anywhere in the world) contract work with flexible hours. Full-time hours are an option, in which case the time to finish all the work may be 3-6 months. Otherwise, it could be a longer period of part-time work. I hope to compensate for the ephemeral nature of the position with a higher-than-average rate.

Daniel Mullins Games is a small company. In fact, it is basically a company of one (hi, that’s me). When working with contractors I like to make them the masters of their domain and then I try to meddle as little as possible. The work will be bound by some loose constraints but you’ll get a lot of say over how it turns out.

I’m a mostly solo developer responsible for creating Inscryption, The Hex, and Pony Island. Considering the success of Inscryption, I think it’s safe to say your work will be seen by a lot of people. No pressure! I’m certainly not cracking under it.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years industry experience creating 3D game art with at least one shipped title
  • Experience working in Unity: lighting, materials, creating performant environments
  • Experience with foliage generation tools such as SpeedTree and experience creating vegetation-heavy scenes in Unity
  • Experience using source control tools such as Git
  • A portfolio showcasing some of your best 3D environment work

3D Environment Artist at Wabisabi Games

We are a new indie studio working on our first original IP. The game is a new old-school 3D platformer based on graffiti painting. Think of it as a mix of Jet Set Radio and Spyro the Dragon, with an art direction of Asian cyberpunk brutalist aesthetics (like the original manga of Ghost in the Shell).

We are looking for a senior 3D environment artist focused on Unreal Engine that can help with the development of our videogame, creating atmospheres and environments inspired by the concept art to reach the level of quality of a III (triple I) game.

The person needs to show expertise in the entire environment art pipeline, from modularity planning, 3d modeling, creation of textures, shaders, and lighting.

The current technology pipeline is Maya, Substance 3D Painter/Designer, Photoshop, and Unreal Engine 4.

The position will focus actively on:

  • Creation of 3D assets and 3D environments based on architecture and organic elements, combined with lighting stages.
  • Set dressing and world-building inside Unreal Engine.
  • Work along with a team of developers, artists, producers, and more.
  • Create solutions for 3D art that respond to the technical limitations of the engine and the game design documents.
