Check out a procedural tool created by Technical Artist Magnus Larsson.
Technical Artist Magnus Larsson shared a look at 'NG_Room_Maker', a Houdini tool that was created to help build the world of the Ascent.
The process involved making building modules and then using these modules inside the HDA to populate scenes.
"By defining "rooms" or "buildings" with a BP we called "blockoutbox" (which can be set to add or substractive mode) the HDA (Houdini Digital Asset) populates the outlines with modules previously build and defined in a .json file," wrote Larsson. "And the height value from each "layer" would ensure they are stacked on top of each other like a cake."
The artist also noted that the tool was used to add details like debris, cables, and decals, plus more. Find the original post with a look at the Houdini node system here.
