Adobe Released Substance 3D Painter 8.2

The update allows exporting .sbsar files along with texture maps, applying blending modes and opacity across multiple channels, aligning the environment map to the camera, and more.

Adobe has released Substance 3D Painter 8.2, introducing .sbsar files export, new options to apply blending modes and opacity, a new environment option to light up underneath 3D models, and other features.

When exporting textures, the Substance archive (SBSAR) file format is now available, so you can open your project in many applications with Substance integration. It means the texture maps are now packed into one material that can be easily opened in software supporting the format.

The update also makes it easy to copy and apply blending modes and opacity across multiple channels in the Layer Stack, blending options are accessible through the right-click menu. Additionally, filter and color selection effects now have the possibility to use blending modes and opacity controls.

You can also apply effects to folders without complex layer configurations. Another handy feature is the environment option to light up underneath 3D models. It aligns the environment map to the camera making it possible to adjust the lighting angle.

The Assets window got new actions: you can favorite any asset and delete, reload, or rename resources.

Other changes include new Welcome and What's New windows, improved HDPI support and Python scripting, the ability to reset Substance graph parameters to default, view individual RGBA components in viewports, export and reload UI layouts, and more.

Substance 3D Painter is available on Steam for $149.99, via Substance 3D Texturing subscriptions costing $19.99/month or $219.88/year, and Substance 3D Collection subscriptions that cost $49.99/month or $549.88/year.
