The updates bring tons of new features, including an improved copy-paste text layer for Illustrator, Frame.io integration, and improved edge detection in sky replacements.
Adobe has shipped a massive 23.3 update for its digital editing and painting software Photoshop. The update has brought multiple new features and improvements to the software, with the most important two being the ability to paste text from Illustrator as an editable layer and improvements to the sky replacement system, as well as several smaller updates like new Multithreaded and GPU compositing options and the removal of Camera Shake Reduction.
One of the biggest upgrades is the added ability to copy and paste text layers from Illustrator, Adobe’s vector graphics software, and keep them as editable layers. You can now easily move text layers from Illustrator with different typographic properties and paste them into Photoshop as editable text layers while maintaining both functional and visual fidelity.
Another big update greatly improves the Sky Replacement feature, making the contrast between the foreground and background around the thin line objects better preserved, while the halo artifacts are also reduced when replacing a bright sky with a darker sky or vice versa. To achieve this quality improvement, a new layer group is introduced in the layer stack of the sky replacement result, which includes two adjustment layers and a mask that is less smooth than the compositing mask.
Here are some smaller updates and enhancements introduced by Adobe:
- Multithreaded and GPU compositing: You can now use Multithreaded and GPU compositing options to speed up your workflows by "between 100% and 250%".
- Preference improvement for saving new documents: With this update, when you select Save As on a new document, you will see the cloud document picker dialog so you can save your files to Creative Cloud. You will still be able to save locally on your computer.
- Removal of Camera Shake Reduction and Quick Share: The Camera Shake Reduction feature will be removed due to its being not compatible with newer development platforms. The Quick Share will be removed due to low usage.
Adobe has also unveiled After Effects 22.3, the latest version of its compositing software. The update brings the long-awaited integration of the cloud-based video collaboration platform Frame.io, acquired by Adobe last year, adds support for Apple Silicon processors, and several smaller features designed to make the workflow more convenient.
The biggest update is undoubtedly the integration of Frame.io, Adobe's post-production cloud-based video collaboration platform. The integration adds the ability to share work in progress and receive feedback without leaving your composition. Frame.io for Creative Cloud includes 100 GB of Frame.io cloud storage, up to five projects, unlimited reviewers, file sharing, and Camera to Cloud with support for uploading via Teradek, Atomos, and Filmic Pro.
After Effects 22.3 allows you to take advantage of the latest technologies, including new Apple silicon machines. Apple M1 users will be able to experience shorter launch times, improved UI responsiveness, and faster rendering.
The new Extended 3D Viewer extends real-time 3D draft previews beyond the composition's frame boundaries. The creators will now be able to see what their off-camera 3D content contains, then bring it into the scene with ease.
