Blender 3.0 Is Being Postponed

According to a new announcement by the Blender Foundation, Blender 3.0 will be postponed until late October.

The chairman of the Blender Foundation Ton Roosendaal has announced that the release of Blender 3.0 will be postponed until late October. Roosendaal cites the need to properly prepare the long-awaited release, including by conducting in-person meetings and workshops at the institute this fall with the easing down of lockdowns and travel restrictions.

Announced last year, Blender 3.0 will end Blender's second cycle, opening a door for new possibilities. It will include many new features, including a new asset manager, revamped animation toolset, and a USD importer.

"This puts the 3.0 planning under a lot of pressure... I also think we have to allow the developers to schedule a summer holiday, to relieve Corona stress and to give everyone time to come back together again – after having been separated in lockdown so long," reads the announcement. "For these reasons, I propose to shift the 3.0 release planning with two months, to late October. The asset project would love the extra time, and CyclesX then can also be in the release."
