Check Out Animation for Indie Pirate Game Based on Real-Life Footage

The developers of The Skyland Chronicles showed how they use real-life movements to visualize the character.

A Reddit user known under the name TheSkylandChronicles shared this behind-the-scenes video showing how an animation for the upcoming indie pirate game is being created.

The animation of a grumpy pirate tossing a weapon into the air is made in a creative and innovative manner. Rather than animating the action from scratch, the creators took inspiration from real-life movement, using motion reference footage of a person tossing a bottle. By studying the physics of the throw, the animators were able to recreate the action and bring the character's movements to life.

The clip refers to the game titled The Skyland Chronicles by MFA GAMES, a third-person action roguelike souls-like powered by Unreal Engine 5. A player takes on the role of a pirate tasked to stop the rebellion. To succeed in this, they need to learn the story of every crew member while uncovering mysterious secrets and participating in battles. The narrative-driven game offers multiple story paths, offering various endings based on players' decisions.

The developers have been sharing some behind-the-scenes moments from the creative process and glimpses of the gameplay:
