Developer poorlocke unveiled that a large amount of rotoscoping has been used to achieve the desired effect.
Twitter user poorlocke showcased an animation of the controllable character performing a series of combos and stances in a beautifully crafted water scene with stunning water reactions. According to the developer, a large amount of rotoscoping has been used to create characters that move realistically, just like real people.
The clip is from their work-in-progress Crimson Capes, “a soulslike Action-RPG taking place in a Sword & Sorcery setting” created using GameMaker. You take the role of the leader of the Crimson Capes, a guild that aims at hunting witches and “engage in fluid 2D pixel art swordplay, hunt witches, track monsters and experience the age of high adventure.”
