CITIGEN: Create Your Own Cities in Blender

Check out this cool add-on that simplifies the creation of city environments in Blender.

A South Korean multi-media company Digital Mirage Entertainment has released a great new add-on for Blender Artists called CITIGEN. The add-on allows you to create a variety of city environments equipped with streets, traffic lights, trees, etc, as huge as your RAMs, CPUs, and GPUs allow, in just a few clicks. The developer comments that there is no need for HDRIs and rigging animation cameras to create simple drone-like shots. What's more, you can add your own detailed building models to the CITIGEN library, so no two cities will ever look the same.

The developer notes, however, that the default CITIGEN assets are very detailed, so you might need high-end GPU cards if you want to go over 100 * 100 blocks. On the other hand, it is possible to replace them with low poly building assets and go as big as you want, this is up to the individual artists to decide.

In the future, the team promises to add highways and rivers, improve the quality of the default assets, add more CITIGEN camera rig options, and more.
