Cloud Imperium to Launch A New Manchester Studio

The company promises over 700 jobs in Manchester's metropolitan area by 2023.

Cloud Imperium revealed they are launching a new studio in Manchester, UK. The studio will be based in the Enterprise City district, and the current plan is to open the doors in May 2022 plus create over 700 jobs in Manchester's metropolitan area by 2023 (1,000 by 2026).

The team noted it will be the company's new UK headquarters so 400 people currently working in the UK headquarters (Wilmslow) will relocate.

Cloud Imperium has been developing space simulator Star Citizen since the early 2010s. The company is also creating a standalone story-driven game set in the same universe, Squadron 42. The company currently has over 700 employees worldwide at studios in Los Angeles, Austin, Frankfurt, Montreal, and more.

"Manchester is where I started my video game career, when I was hired to write the Game of the Month for BBC Micro User, back in 1983 at the ripe age of 14, so it makes me very happy to announce that we have signed a long-term deal for our biggest office yet, in downtown Manchester," said Cloud Imperium's CEO Chris Roberts. "Manchester is one of the most vibrant and modern cities in Europe, with strong education links and high connectivity, offering outstanding opportunities and quality of life for our team. The new Enterprise City space is the perfect home for game development, with its deep investment in businesses focused on media, technology and creativity."
