EG7 Closes Down Rising Storm Studio Antimatter Games

Parent company EG7 announced its decision to close down a UK-based developer in order to enhance overall group profitability.

Antimatter Games, the studio behind Rising Storm 2, is set to close its doors. The studio's parent company, Enad Global 7 stated the decision to shut down the studio was reached after "exploring various strategic options." The closure is expected to occur this summer.

EG7 stated that it was considering various alternatives for Antimatter Games, including transitioning the studio to a work-for-hire model, seeking a buyer for the studio, or partnering with a third-party publisher for their upcoming first-person shooter, I.G.I Origins, which was set to be a reimagined version of the 2000 FPS game Project IGI. However, EG7 concluded that all of these options didn't produce "sufficient traction within the Group's target timeline".

EG7 has not disclosed the future of I.G.I Origins. However, it has already accounted for a financial loss related to the game, which, according to the company, is expected to have a minimal impact on its overall balance sheet.

Antimatter Games was established in 2013 by ex-developers of Rising Storm, an expansion pack for Red Orchestra 2 released in the same year. The studio is known for its work on Rising Storm 2, as well as its contributions to the Killing Floor series and 2K's multiplayer shooter, Evolve.
