Facebook and Ray-Ban Launch Smart Glasses for $299+

Unfortunately, there's no augmented reality interface yet.

Facebook launched its first smart glasses to boost augmented-reality experiences. The glasses, created in partnership with Ray-Ban maker EssilorLuxottica, let you listen to music, take calls and capture photos or short videos, then share them across Facebook's services with a companion app. The price of Ray-Ban Stories starts at $299.

"We’ve believed for a long time that glasses are going to be an important part of building the next computing platform," said Mark Zuckerberg.

The announcement states the glasses will not access the media used by its smart-glasses customers without their consent. What is more, the content of the photos or videos captured using the glasses and stored in the Facebook View app will not be used for personalizing ads.

The glasses include an optional virtual assistant to capture photos and videos through voice commands. There's an LED light on the glasses to show when the camera is on so other people will be aware when a wearer is taking a photo or video.
