Firaxis' Jake Solomon Says No XCOM Games Are Currently in Development

The director acknowledged the demand for a new XCOM game but said that the studio is now focused on Midnight Suns.

Firaxis Games' creative director Jake Solomon, who was in charge of XCOM and its sequel as well as the recently-released Marvel's Midnight Suns, has shared that there are currently no plans to revive the XCOM franchise.

In an interview with VGC, Solomon noted that there's still Midnight Suns content in the works. He acknowledged the high demand from players for a return to his other strategy series, XCOM, but added that a new XCOM game is not in development now, at least, he is not aware of plans to bring the franchise back to life.

"Of course, you can ask, you can join your voice to the chorus ringing out from the hills," he told the outlet. "I personally have no information on that right now and I say that because, truly, yesterday I was working on Morbius’ abbey outfits and recolors, so I am not working on it. I don’t have any secret agenda, I don’t know anything about XCOM at this point."

The news may sound disappointing but not surprising for XCOM and Firaxis fans. Although Solomon and Firaxis have done an impressive job with the sci-fi franchise, they are still busy with their latest title as there's still much to come in terms of content for Midnight Suns before the developers are finished.

Firaxis released the latest main installment of the XCOM series, XCOM 2, in 2016. In 2020, it released a spin-off called Chimera Squad for PC. Since then, the team has been working on Marvel's Midnight Suns, which shares some elements of XCOM's tactical gameplay. The first of at least four planned DLC packs for Midnight Suns, The Good, The Bad, and the Undead, was released last week, introducing Deadpool to the game. Other DLC packs will be based on Venom, Morbius, and Storm.
