The movie was first announced back in 2007 but hasn't been heard from much since then.
The Gears of War movie has been slowly developing for about 15 years since its announcement and New Line Cinema purchasing the rights to make it in 2007. Unfortunately, there haven't been any substantial updates in a long time.
However, the development seems to be in progress, and we will soon hear about it as Dylan Clark, one of the movie's producers, mentioned there might be an announcement:
"It’s something it’s been a passion of mine for a very long time. I think very soon there will be an announcement."
So far, there isn't much information about the third-person shooter adaptation, but let's hope the announcement will shed light on its future.
