GTA Online Community Warns Players of the Game's Security Vulnerabilities

The community is urging people to not play the game on PC now due to "very dangerous exploits" that are being abused by modders.

New severe exploits, which enable hackers to remotely alter, delete or add players' stats and permanently ban or delete their accounts, have been discovered in GTA Online.

The news was first reported by credible GTA insider Tez2 and was later corroborated by moderators of the GTA Online subreddit who have warned players that it is not safe to play the game on PC right now due to these "very dangerous" exploits.

According to Tez2, Rockstar is already aware of the situation and has been logging any affected accounts before the first mod menu started abusing the new exploits.

Speyedr, the developer of the Guardian, a custom firewall for GTA Online, has also drawn attention to the problem – they believe that the exploit is so serious that a single incorrect setting or action may cause players to lose their accounts or even their PC files.

The developer noted the Guardian is currently coping with the exploit, but there is still a risk that users may set up the firewall incorrectly and become a victim of hackers which is why they asked players not to log into the game until Rockstar takes action. They have also temporarily removed the Guardian builds from GitLab until the exploit is patched.
