Guerrilla Games Talks about Horizon Call of the Mountain's Protagonist

See how you will experience the world of Horizon from a new perspective.

In a recent blog post on Sony's website, Guerrilla Games has uncovered the details behind Ryas, the protagonist of the upcoming VR game Horizon Call of the Mountain.

"The Carja Sundom is still reeling from the bloody Red Raids, a brutal campaign of attacks and ritual sacrifice inflicted by the Carja on their neighboring tribes. These raids, which devastated countless lives, were ended when the Mad Sun-King Jiran was overthrown by his son Avad.

The aftershocks of Jiran’s rule splintered the Carja tribe, with those grateful for an end to his rule remaining in the Sundom, and soldiers loyal to the slain leader forcing their way into the citadel at Sunfall, reforming as the Carja in Shadow."

Ryas was one of the soldiers who played a crucial part in the abduction of Prince Itamen from his Meridian home. To atone and regain his honor, he allowed himself to be arrested and jailed by the Carja. However, his life was spared and he was recruited by Sun-King Avad and Blameless Marad. Now, Ryas must earn his freedom in exchange for investigating a new threat.

On this dangerous adventure, players will encounter new characters and reunite with familiar ones. Ryas's past has affected these relationships, so to win back their trust, he must make amends.

Guerrilla Games promises that in the game, players can explore the world of Horizon in a new light through Ryas and the PS VR2 headset, which provides an immersive experience with its haptic feedback, intelligent eye tracking, and an ultra-wide field of view.

"We took the Horizon experience and built it from the ground up for VR," said Guerrilla’s Studio Narrative Director Ben McCaw. "And for this, we felt we needed a new protagonist. As a master climber, hunter, and explorer, Ryas offers the perfect viewpoint of the sweeping vistas and dangerous wilds of Horizon."
