Industrial Light & Magic Explained What Being a Generalist Means

The studio is also hiring generalists and other professionals.

Visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic released a video where its generalists talk about their work, what they love about it, and what made them decide to become a generalist.

"What I love about Gen is that one day you'll be making a model, next day you might be animating or running a simulation or you get to do your own compositing," shared Matt Anderson.

There are plenty of people on the team who studied in a different field before becoming generalists.

"I started working as an engineer and then I realized: okay, there's a way an artist can communicate with people and the world just through his artworks," Lead Generalist Rohit Nayak recalled.

ILM also talked about what a generalist should be able to do:

"We want people that are enthusiastic artists that are willing to learn and understand what it takes to make a singular vision."

"If you've got a passion for environments, if you love being the kind of person that's using the right tool for the job and love working on things and putting your shots together, you're going to do really well in our generalist department."

If you feel you can do all of that, you can apply for this or any other open positions on the studio's website. Also, don't forget to join our new Reddit pageour new Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we are sharing breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
