Lucasfilm Hires a Popular Deepfake YouTuber

Shamook, the creator of popular deepfake videos on YouTube, has joined Lucasfilm's Industrial Light and Magic division.

A popular Deepfake YouTuber only known as Shamook was hired by Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light and Magic. The YouTuber went viral about half a year ago for creating a deepfake version of Luke Skywalker's cameo from The Mandalorian. Other than that, there are many other great deepfake videos that you can see on Shamook's YouTube page.

Indiewire has confirmed with Industrial Light and Magic that Shamook joined the team there. While their position was not disclosed, Industrial Light and Magic’s statement specifically cited the company’s growing interest in machine learning and AI.

"Industrial Light and Magic is always on the lookout for talented artists and have in fact hired the artist that goes by the online persona Shamook," comments the company's representative. "Over the past several years ILM has been investing in both machine learning and A.I. as a means to produce compelling visual effects work and it’s been terrific to see momentum building in this space as the technology advances."
