Marvel Contest of Champions Publisher Kabam Lays Off 12% of Its Staff

The studio has reduced its workforce by 12%, citing "current economics and the industry’s market realities" as the reason for this decision.

Kabam, the developer and publisher behind Disney Mirrorverse and Marvel Contest of Champions, has laid off 12% of its staff. The company confirmed the news in a statement provided to Kotaku senior reporter Ethan Gach.

"In light of current economics and the industry’s market realities, after reviewing our strategic priorities, Kabam has made the difficult decision to reduce its workforce by 12 percent," the statement reads.

According to Kabam, the restructuring within the company aims to provide it with "greater financial flexibility to invest in new growth area while also streamlining [its] existing development team."

"We want to thank those who are leaving Kabam today for their contributions, and we are supporting them through this challenging transition," the statement concludes.

These new reductions in Kabam follow the November wave of job cuts that affected 35 employees.

The games industry continues to experience job cuts. Earlier, it was also announced that Relic Entertainment, the developer behind Company of Heroes 3 and Age of Empires IV, had laid off 121 employees.
