Mobile Games Spending Reached $89.6bn in 2021

Garena Free Fire was the most downloaded game of the year across both Google Play and App Store.

Sensor Tower shared its 2021 mobile report saying game spending reached $89.6 billion across Google Play and the iOS App Store which is a 12.6% rise compared to the previous year.

It was also noted that mobile gaming generated 67.4% of all in-app spending (In 2019, games reached 74.1% of all in-app spending, and 71.7% in 2020). Sensor Tower states the reason for the decline is growth in other sectors, in particular the Entertainment category, receiving "a large boost from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic."

Gaming generated 61.5% of the App Store's revenue in 2021, and 78% of revenue for Google Play. Sensor Tower's estimate says users will spend $52.3 billion globally on games on the App Store by the end of the year, plus $37.3 billion via Google's Play Store.

PUBG Mobile was the top-grossing game worldwide across the two platforms, Honor of Kings and Genshin Impact followed the result. The report states Garena Free Fire was the most downloaded game of the year across both Google Play and App Store.
