Unity Technologies announces Unity Learn Premium, enabling professionals across industries to master Real-Time 3D development. New learning platform provides exclusive access to industry-specific resources, live sessions with Unity experts, advanced learning content, and more. 80 Level talked with Jessica Lindl, VP and Global Head of Education at Unity Technologies, and discussed the new initiative.

Education with Unity

80lv: What’s the current situation with Unity education currently? I know a lot of schools use your engine, a lot of people actually rely on Unity in their programs. But where do they seek the courses and the knowledge necessary to start playing with the tool? What’s the go-to place to go?

Jessica Lindl (JL): We believe the world is a better place with more creators in it. As a result, we have invested significantly in creating thousands of courses, tutorials, projects, trainings and certifications across with global distribution. Through this work, we discovered that there was no definitive source for advancing from absolute beginner to expert level across all industries and decided to bring all of this work together on our Unity Learn Platform.

80lv: It seems like in today’s market most of the knowledge available for free for Unity professionals is very basic. It’s not often that we see tutorials and explanations that go really in-depth, especially in art production. How do you guys approach this problem and attempt to solve it with your problem?

JL: Until now, there wasn’t a definitive learning resource for learning intermediate or advanced Unity skills, particularly for professionals in industries beyond gaming.

Unity users working on specific projects or tasks are busy professionals who want up-to-date, on-demand learning resources at their fingertips. They don’t have time to search for or evaluate the quality and relevance of learning content (i.e. culling through Google searches or YouTube comments). They also want access to updated learning content to help them learn how to use the latest Unity editor features and releases.

Learners seek access to experts, both within a community and from Unity. They value the immediacy of interacting with peers and experts in real-time. They want to be able to ask questions and feel the answers are provided with the experience and know-how of advanced Unity skills.

Unity Learn Premium is our answer to these problems. We’re offering professionals the most comprehensive source of learning content to advance their Unity knowledge and skills within their industry.

A Few More Words about Unity Learn Premium

80lv: Can you give us some information about Learn Premium? What do you want to solve with these courses? How are these courses structured? What do you want to have in them? What are the types of content that we can expect to have in this course?

JL: Unity Learn Premium blends self-paced, instructor-led, and peer-based learning with a web-based, just-in-time learning model to allow professionals to specialize and accelerate in their professional track in gaming, ATM, AEC, or M&E.

Unity Learn Premium provides access to live, interactive training sessions with Unity certified instructors, integrated web-streamed Unity Editor courses, peer learning through an online community of like-minded learners and instructors, on-demand guided learning paths that enable users to create and track their learning journey, and much more.

New Unity Learn Premium content is developed based on the most recent best practices for professional development.

80lv: Can you tell us a bit more about the instructors who are taking part in this? Are all of them part of Unity team? Are they professionals working in games in other areas? We’d love to know a bit more.

JL: The instructors on Unity Learn Premium are formally known as Unity Certified Instructors, who are part of a Unity program that recognizes leaders who have demonstrated excellence and proficiency in both Unity skills and training capabilities.

80lv: Finally, who do you think should apply, who is this service for, and what’s the pricing? Do you have any discounts for universities or students?

JL: Anyone who wants to go beyond the foundation laid out by Unity Learn and reach the next level in their 3D interactive development ambitions should explore what Unity Learn Premium has to offer. It will be available at no additional cost for Plus and Pro subscribers and offered as a standalone subscription for $15/month.
