New In-Depth Course: Advanced Compositing for VFX

Rebelway school announced a new course that will help artists to gain knowledge on how to use Nuke to composite live-action plates with CG elements.

Rebelway invites creatives who'd like to receive deep knowledge of Nuke and start a journey of FX and CGI to join the course.

The course's mentor is Nick Chamberlain, Compositing Supervisor at Barnstorm VFX, working primarily on television shows (with the occasional feature film).

In the video below, Nick discusses the content of the course, all the details you'll be guided through.

You will start with a quick overview of basic compositing theory, and dealing with bright backgrounds for luma keys. At the end of the course, you'll be familiar with Nuke, layering in real waterfall plates, extracting and layering fog.

Within this 6-week course you will deep into:

  • Rotoscoping via 3D Camera
  • Projections and paint layering
  • Luma Key Sky replacement
  • CG Statue, Dropship, and Crashed Ship integration
  • Blending the crashed ship via DMP
  • Layering smoke and atmosphere
  • Integrating up close CG foreground
  • Blending real ground with CG
  • Matte Painting with images

One of the most essential skills to obtain as a CG and FX artist is compositing. For this new course, Rebelway has chosen Nuke, an industry-standard compositing program. Week by week the artists will build their knowledge of Nuke to composite live-action plates with CG elements.
