Newzoo: Global Video Game Market Dropped 5% in 2022

The market intelligence firm reported a decline in revenue across all segments of the video game market in 2022.

The latest report by analytics firm Newzoo reveals that the global video game market reached $182.9 in 2022, reflecting a 5.1% decline from the previous year. 

According to the analysts, the major part of the market's revenue (50%) was driven by mobile games – this sector generated $91.8 billion. Nonetheless, mobile games experienced a decline of nearly 7% last year compared to 2021.

Console games were the second-highest revenue-generating segment, recording earnings of $52.2 billion. This figure reflects a 3% decline from the previous year. Downloaded/boxed PC games amassed $36.5 billion in revenue, experiencing a 2.6% year-over-year decrease. Meanwhile, browser PC games generated $2.3 billion, reflecting a significant 15% drop from 2021.

In terms of regional spending, the Asia-Pacific region was the leader in the global market, with total spending of $84.8 billion, reflecting a 9% decline compared to the previous year. North America secured the second spot in terms of spending, reaching $49.7 billion, experiencing a 2.5% year-over-year decrease. It was followed by Europe, with a spending of $33 billion, indicating a 2% drop compared to 2021.
