Next-Level AR from Magic Leap: the Company Partners With AMD

The creator of Magic Leap One AR glasses and the manufacturer of the most powerful processors are going to work on new augmented reality technologies.

Magic Leap and AMD will be working on a technology solution involving a semi-custom system on chip (SOC). Since chips are AMD's specialty, this partnership will allow Magic Leap to create "the most demanding AR experiences while maintaining power efficiency."

Magic Leap is the creator behind Magic Leap One, a head-mounted virtual retinal display that superimposes 3D computer-generated imagery over real-world objects. Unlike the regular AR HMDs that project images onto a screen, Magic Leap One projects them directly into your eye. So essentially you see the real world through the lenses of the AR glasses and the 3D illusions appear right then and there in front of you as you observe your surroundings.

AMD is the creator of the most powerful processors in the world making chips for all sorts of devices from regular notebooks to supercomputers. The company's Ryzen processors are known for being powerful enough to support the most demanding games with their swift rendering. Also, Ryzen processors "feature the fastest graphics performance available in a desktop processor".

"We have a shared vision with Magic Leap to shape the future of computing and transform the way enterprises worldwide work and interact with each other and their customers. We started this journey together several years ago to co-innovate on computer vision and build the best semi-custom technology for AR," comments Jack Huynh, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of AMD Semi-Custom Business Unit.
