Nintendo Confirmed Its Absence at E3 2023

The company explains that the event doesn't "fit" into its plans.

Nintendo has confirmed that it will be skipping this year's E3 saying that the event didn't "fit" in with its plans.

"We approach our involvement in any event on a case-by-case basis and are always considering various ways to engage with our fans," the company explained in a statement to VentureBeat. "Since this year's E3 show didn’t fit into our plans, we have made the decision to not participate. However, we have been and continue to be a strong supporter of the ESA and E3."

The news that Nintendo won't be attending E3 2023 was first reported by IGN at the end of January. At the time, the outlet also claimed, citing its sources, that Sony and Microsoft will also not take part in the event. At the moment, there is no confirmation from either of the two companies regarding their participation in E3 this year.

E3 has been scheduled to be held in Los Angeles from June 13 to 16, just a month after The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's release. Therefore, Nintendo might be considering skipping E3 to maintain the spotlight on their flagship $70 title.

"Although Nintendo will not exhibit at E3 2023, we are energized by the interest in what ReedPop’s Remastered E3 will look like," E3 organizer ReedPop's president Lance Festerman said in a statement to The Verge. "We look forward to sharing news soon about our exhibitors and all the exciting things taking place."

E3 2023 will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center for the first time in four years. In 2020, the convention was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was held as an online-only event in 2021. It was entirely canceled again in 2022.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) will be organizing this year's event in partnership with ReedPop, the production company behind large-scale events such as PAX, New York Comic Con, Star Wars Celebration, and others.
