Nintendo Switch: Over 89M Hardware Sales and Over 632M Software Sales

Nintendo published a financial report according to which the console reached almost 90 million sales and got closer to Nintendo Wii that still stays at the top of the list with more than 100 million hardware sales.

The first Nintendo Switch was released on March 3, 2017. The hybrid console quickly became a hot item and the fastest-selling home console in Japan in its first year selling a total of 3.2M units compared to PlayStation 2's 3M units within the same period. It was a success in the United States and Europe as well with 4.8 million units sold in the USA and 911,000 units sold in France alone in just 10 months.

Today, the Nintendo Switch family includes 3 consoles: Nintendo Switch (OLED model), the classic Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch Lite. Switch Lite is a handheld-only model while the other two can be used to play games in a TV or tabletop mode. The most popular Nintendo games that keep the sales going at a mind-boggling speed are the Mario series, Animal Crossing, and The Legend of Zelda.

The sales, however, dropped compared to the previous year. The net sales decreased by about 10% while the net profit went down by around 13%. The company's recent titles that have demonstrated solid results in this financially uncertain period were New Pokémon Snap with 2.07 million copies sold, Miitopia (1.04M), and Mario Golf: Super Rush (1.34M).
