No Time for Mirror’s Edge: DICE is Focusing on Battlefield 2042

The studio wants to be the number one spot for first-person shooter games in Europe and one of the powerhouses in the world.

If you're waiting for a new game like Mirror's Edge from DICE, you souldn't expect anything any time soon. The studio's new general manager Rebecka Coutaz shared that the studio is working on improving Battlefield 2042 and is not planning to start new projects.

"We are only focusing on Battlefield 2042," she told GamesIndustry. "There is no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that DICE deserves to be, and that is what we're going for."

After Battlefield 2042's disappointing launch, the team is "fixing and improving" it to not let the players down, and it seems to be working: the recently released season one provided "good feedback," which makes the team "feel better." As EA stated earlier, it's "committed to the future of Battlefield 2042."

"The team is here to make Battlefield, and they're passionate about Battlefield. We have many Battlefield veterans. So it's important for us to improve Battlefield 2042 and the experience that we can provide to our players. We owe them that."

Coutaz said the studio is motivated to change and improve the game they feel so passionate about and the team itself. The introduction of hybrid working is not easy, but it gives the opportunity to work with specialists all over the world and forces DICE to be more structured to create the best Battlefield experience.

"I want the team to be really proud about Battlefield 2042," confessed Coutaz. "We want DICE to be the number one spot for first-person shooter games in Europe, and one of the powerhouses in the world. It's a fabulous team. We're going to make magic together."

"In three years...." is that a release window for some un-announced title or how long she gauges the studio has until 2042's number of concurrent players reaches 0? If she thinks that they'll be a powerhouse after taking "three years" to get 2042 to the level of polish it was marketed as having, she may want to amend her statement.... LOTS of luck in that pursuit.
