NVIDIA Revealed Its New AI-Powered Downscaling Feature

The feature is called DLDSR and is exclusive to GeForce RTX GPUs.

NVIDIA has revealed that a great new graphics-enhancing feature is coming with the next Game Ready driver. Meet Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution, or DLDSR for short, an AI-powered version of Dynamic Super Resolution, NVIDIA's other technology that allows you to render a game at a higher, more detailed resolution and shrink the result back down to the resolution of your monitor.

This new downsampling method improves image quality by enhancing detail, smoothing edges, and reducing shimmering. According to NVIDIA, DLDSR adds an AI network that requires fewer input pixels over a usual DSR. Thanks to it, the image quality of DLDSR 2.25X can be compared to that of DSR 4X, but with enhanced performance. DLDSR will use GeForce RTX GPUs' Tensor Cores to work on most games. As such, the feature is exclusive to GeForce RTX users.

DLDSR will become available on January 14. To enable DLDSR, you will need to install NVIDIA's new driver, open the NVIDIA Control Panel, and navigate to Manage 3D Settings > DSR Factors, and select DLDSR.
