The future of the series, however, is still uncertain.
Following the recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, many fans of the studio's games were left guessing as to whether Activision Blizzard's games will be turned into Xbox exclusives or not. Some of the biggest questions have been about the future of the Call of Duty franchise, played by a lot of gamers on both PlayStation and Xbox. Thanks to a recent tweet, shared by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, it is now more likely that the franchise will still be available on PlayStation post-acquisition.
"Had good calls this week with leaders at Sony," reads Phil Spencer's tweet. "I confirmed our intent to honor all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony is an important part of our industry, and we value our relationship."
However, despite the tweet, it is still not 100% assured that Call of Duty will continue being multiplatform. Previously, Microsoft has shown a willingness to turn its acquisitions into exclusives to increase the number of subscribers to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. The upcoming Starfield by Bethesda, for example, will only be available on Xbox and PC. The future of the franchise will only be determined after the final papers are signed.
