QuakeCon 2022 Will Be A Digital-Only Event Once Again

Bethesda announced that this year's QuakeCon will not return to its live in-person format but promised it would change next year.

This year’s QuakeCon, the annual fan convention devoted to id Software and Bethesda Softworks' video game franchises, will be a digital-only event. On Wednesday, Bethesda announced that QuakeCon 2022 will take place from August 18 to August 20 and will not return to in-person format following two previous events: QuakeCon at Home and QuakeCon 2021.

Although until now, fans of Bethesda games had hoped that the company would finally be able to host a live in-person event this year, the company said that QuakeCon will remain exclusively an online event for the time being.

"Like you, we’re disappointed to not return to Dallas this year,” the organizers said on Twitter. "An event this size requires months of planning, and in this case, we had to make decisions when there was still too much uncertainty to commit to successfully executing an in-person QuakeCon."

QuakeCon 2022 will feature live streaming programming, online meetups, giveaways, charity opportunities, and a virtual BYOC ((Bring Your Own Computer) party. According to the organizers, more details regarding this year’s QuakeCon will come in June.

Bethesda Softworks also assured that it intends to return to the traditional QuakeCon format in 2023, with a BYOC event, "wild contests", as well as a bunch of games and hardware to try out.
