Rust-Powered Global Illumination System Revamped

Tomasz Stochastic demonstrated an improved version of the global illumination system Kajiya.

Programmer at Embark Studios Tomasz Stochastic demonstrated a new and revamped version of Kajiya, a brand new global illumination system powered by Rust, a multi-paradigm, general-purpose programming language. This time, the developer has added more ReSTIR and a new meshless irradiance cache. Plus, the new version of Kajiya can light much larger worlds.

"The irradiance cache uses clipmaps, and is output-sensitive: sparsely allocated only where queried; lookups vote on positions to trace from. Quite resilient to leaks despite the low resolution," commented the developer on the new version of the tool.
