Saints Row Reboot Hit the No.1 Spot in the UK Charts

Horizon Forbidden West's 120% week-on-week growth in sales didn't help the title to hold the first position.

It's been a week since the Saints Row reboot hit the market. The game was met with mixed reviews with people noting that large sections of the game could be described as "generic" and pointing out a number of technical issues. The wave of negative reviews even caused a sharp decline in the stock price of Embracer Group, which owns the game's publisher Deep Silver along with developer Volition.

Despite all this, the game seems to be quite successful in financial terms so far – according to Gfk data (via GamesIndustry.biz), Saints Row was the best-selling game in UK retail between August 21 and 27.

The data also reveals that the title sold more than five times as many copies as Volition's Agents of Mayhem, 2017's game set in a parallel universe of the Saints Row series. Comparisons with other titles in the series would be a little tougher as the latest full entry, Saints Row: Gat out of Hell, was released in 2015, before the shift towards digital sales.

Another new title that entered the UK charts last week was Soul Hackers 2 from Atlus – the game, however, didn't manage to enter the Top Ten list, sitting at No.11 place.

With Saints Row's successful debut, Horizon Forbidden West which topped the list in the previous three weeks dropped to the second position, even despite a 120% week-on-week increase in sales. The next five spots were taken by Nintendo titles – Nintendo Switch Sports was at No.3 place, followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (No.4), Animal Crossing: New Horizons (No.5), Pokémon Legends: Arceus (No.6), and the Switch version of Minecraft (No.7).
