The Callisto Protocol Will Not Make It to Japan

The game couldn't get a content rating there.

The highly anticipated survival horror game The Callisto Protocol is not coming to Japan as it couldn't receive a rating from CERO (Computer Entertainment Rating Organization) due to the amount of violence and graphic content.

It's far from the first game to fail to satisfy CERO's requirements, but while some others (like Resident Evil) release modified versions with less gore, the creators of The Callisto Protocol made a decision to cancel it in Japan.

According to the message on Twitter (via Wccftech), the Japanese version of the game will not be developed. The studio stated that getting CERO certification would require making changes to the game’s content that it believes would not reflect the experience its players would expect. The players who have already purchased the game will be refunded.

Thankfully, the international versions of the game will not be affected by this, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S console versions are not region-locked, so Japanese players still have a chance to get the full experience.

The Callisto Protocol will be released on December 2, 2022, for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
