The IEEE GameSIG Showcase 2023 Event is Coming Up Soon

This year’s event will take place on April 16 in the Titan Student Center at California State University, Fullerton.

Now in its 12th year, the competition is an educational outreach event run by IEEE GameSIG, part of the IEEE Computer Society, Orange County Section. The purpose of the event is to challenge college and high-school students to earn the right to put “Finalist – IEEE GameSIG Showcase” on their resumes and gain valuable real-world skills.

"Creating a game is a multi-disciplinary effort that involves designers, artists, audio experts, and programmers. Working as part of a team, prioritizing tasks, and sticking to a schedule are not easy. Those who are selected as finalists have proven that they can work effectively with others and finish what they start.", says the event team.

Rules of the competition

Between 30 and 50 teams will submit a YouTube video promoting their game this year (a second "live play" video will be required later, only for the finalists). Consider your promotional video as a "movie trailer" or "marketing pitch". Your video will be individually reviewed by a group of industry and academic personnel.

Only the ten highest-ranking submissions will be accepted for the final round of the competition. Your video needs to be engaging. It needs to clearly explain the strengths of the design and why it will appeal to your target audience.

On the day of the event, judges will watch the provided videos, up to five minutes long, on a live stream, discuss the projects with the audience via chat as well as communicate with the development team about the workflows, concept and technical approach.
