The Mirage Team is Not Remaking the Original Assassin's Creed

Art director Jean-Luc Sala confirmed Mirage is the studio's main focus now.

Ubisoft has recently announced Assassin's Creed Mirage where you play as Basim, who will join an ancient organization in a story-driven action adventure similar to classic Assassin's Creed chapters. In Mirage, the studio explores the series' foundations so some players are wondering if Ubisoft plans to release a remake of the first part eventually.

Art director Jean-Luc Sala has recently discussed the rumor revealing the Mirage team is currently not working on the remake. "Yeah, that's not what we're doing. I'm fully dedicated to Mirage and I can tell you we are not remaking AC1," Sala told Eurogamer.

Now we know the Mirage studio is not busy with the remake but could another studio be leading the project? Considering the game was released in 2007, Ubisoft could definitely think about the remake/remaster at some point. Sala has also revealed the game was initially planned as a DLC but then turned out to be a full-fledged game that is now called Mirage.

"It was supposed to be a DLC for something like four or five weeks," Sala said, "and then we realized that if we were going to do Baghdad, we had to do it properly. We needed to be a fully-fledged game. That's where it all started to become what it is now."

Assassin's Creed Mirage is coming to Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and Amazon Luna in 2023. You can learn more about recent Assassin's Creed announcements here and find the full Eurogamer interview there
