Ubisoft Wants to Make “Every Hour Spent in the Game Count”

Seems like the company is focused on making games long but meaningful.

VP of the editorial team at Ubisoft Fawzi Mesmar said that the company aims to make "every hour spent in our game count." While the studio's games become longer, Ubisoft seems to focus on increasing the quality together with play time.

While playing many-hour IPs can be tedious, gaming executives believe longer playing times are good for business, and EA CEO Andrew Wilson even said that there is a near 1:1 relation between a gamer playing for more hours and spending more money in games.

Mesmar also told Axios about the free-to-play battle royale game Ghost Recon Frontline, which was canceled after players' feedback on the in-development build.

“Following the feedback that we've collected from our players in the playtest, we found that that game basically was not meeting the players' expectations,” he said.

Ubisoft noted the negative reaction received from fans who expected a stealth-oriented game but “wanted to also collect the feedback of the players once they've experienced the game, not just the messaging around the game.”

Along with Ghost Recon Frontline, Splinter Cell VR was also scrapped. Instead, Ubisoft is working on a remake that will have the story updated "for a modern-day audience."
