In the game, you will have to make your way through the cathedral to find relics and to fight the fire.
Ubisoft has announced it partnered with Pathé – a major film production and distribution company – to create a location-based VR escape game based on Jean-Jacques Annaud’s upcoming docudrama “Notre-Dame on Fire.” The game will share the movie's name and allow the players to become firefighters for an hour to try and save the famous cathedral on 15 April 2019.
Ubisoft has special affection towards the place as this will be the third time they will have used Notre-Dame in their projects, the first being Assassin's Creed Unity (2014) and the second – a virtual tour Notre-Dame de Paris: Journey Back in Time (2020).
Variety says that Jean-Jacques Annaud and Ubisoft began preliminary talks in early 2021. According to Deborah Papiernik, Ubisoft senior VP new business and strategic alliances, the filmmaker contacted the studio himself. "He knew that we had a special attachment to Notre Dame." The Ubisoft team uses the film’s screenplay to base the game off.
"The fact that we had that access really nourished our team," says Papiernik. "That doesn’t mean we translated everything to gameplay; rather, it offered our team food for thought for our adaptation."
