3D GAME ENVIRONMENTS

THE FLOWER HOUSE 

For this project, I wanted to practice more on a modular stylized modeling and texturing workflow. Most of the texturing is done with trim sheets and world-aligned textures so I can focus on creating modular pieces that can be reused. I wanted to emulate an environment that exists in Genshin or Breath of the Wild, so I reference a lot of the lighting and shader styles.

BIG BOSS 老板 TROPHY ROOM SHOWCASE ( UE5 )

This project was an art test that I did over the timespan of 1 month. Apart from my full time, another challenge was that I will have to come out of my comfort zone and design an interior with a cyberpunk theme. Hence, I knew I could not be too ambitious with this project, and turn this into an opportunity to design a Chinese mafia boss trophy room with a cyberpunk twist to it. In addition, this is the first project in which I utilized Unreal Engine 5.1, and I must say lumens make everything so much faster. I learn a lot from this project about mood and storytelling and hope that my next project will continue to improve from here.

THE FORGOTTEN RELIGION

This project started because I was inspired by the Last Of Us Remake and their environments are so meticulously crafted which was what I wanted to push myself to achieve for an abandoned place. The concept was done by Sergey Tretyakov, but I made some little tweaks to it so it could have more story to it.

THE TUSKEN BAR

This is a 3-month individual project that I took upon in school. The objective was to model a small environment in a stylized art style. I really learn a lot from the project especially on the technical side as I am not super savvy with nodes and shaders, so this is a good way for me to get my hands wet, however, the asset creation was the key part and I hope to keep improving in the next project.

WORLD BUILDING PROJECTS

E D E N - A Remaking Of Man

Imagine if the messiah came down, however, instead of saving all of humankind, it instead decided to restart from the beginning due to the humans being so corrupt and unsalvageable. It created a perfect utopia and filled it with humanoid cyborg avatars named after the first humans, Adam and Eve. The memories of the dead humans are implanted into these avatars and they are reborn once again, but is this second chance really worth living, or are they another cheap copy of their former selves, flaws and all?

CLEANSED

This is a concept project that I worked on for 3 months! It's a horror survival zombie game called CLEANSED. The synopsis is that the human kingdom was overrun by zombified fairies. You as the main character are part of a survival faction trying to survive in a zombie-infested world and protecting other factions from the main enemy faction as well. In addition to doing conceptual art and illustrations, i also did a 3D environment of an underground bunker of how the survivors live in unreal Engine 4.

ENVIRONMENT CONCEPTS 

THE MERIDIAN

I wanted to practice on my sci-fi/ cyberpunk environments as I have been doing fantasy ones for most of my art journey and it is good to have a change of pace to practice new techniques and genres. This is inspired by hong kong and I wanted to emulate the variety of social classes through the complexity of architecture and lighting.

VALHALLA WELCOMES YOU

This is a kitbash/paint-over piece that I was trying out from some kits that I bought from Artstation Market. I realized that I did really do big castle-like structures for a long time and it was really intuitive to use the kits to create this quick concept piece since I wanted a more cinematic feel to it, I decided to change the aspect ratio from the normal 16:9 to 21:9, it really gives me more space to put a lot more focus on the focal point and make it way more dynamic.

THE ONES THAT CAME BEFORE

For this piece, I had an idea of mixing 2 different materials in a desert place. The idea was to portray an ancient gateway that was made from an alien-like material, and bandits have been stealing those on the arches while trying to pry open the gate. This piece gave me the opportunity to place with contrasting colors which I really like and to also practice my realism style and painting. I was really inspired by Destiny's environments as they use so many contrasting and complimentary colors that it has a flair on their own.

CHARACTER DESIGNS 

BONHARDI ( A DOOM-INSPIRED BOSS CONCEPT )

For this project, I force myself to design a boss character for the game doom eternal. I went through several body types and shapes but I ended up choosing the fat design as Doom doesn't really have a fat character. haha but learned a lot like how mechanics work and how to make each weapon and system believable.

The White Knight

So this character design is supposed to be inspired by inanimate objects/ everyday objects, so I chose a chrysalis So the properties of a chrysalis are to protect the insect I think? so that the main function i used was to create an armor design with all the patterns and texture bumps on it as well. I wanted to make it look more man-made so I referenced armor designs from monster hunter and ended up with this really had a lot of fun designing this guy.

THE OUTLAWS

For this piece, I wanted to practice my stylized style more, and in addition, wanted to create a lineup of characters this is a bunch of outlaws who survived in the forests, and since wild bears are their key enemy, they used bear traps to capture bears for their meat and clothing/armor as well.

NECROMANCER CHARACTER DESIGN

Decided to do up a few sketches of different job sets and end up choosing the necromancer. For his design, I was inspired by Scarecrows and Freddy Krueger from The Nightmare on Elm Street. I wanted him to give him a more creepy and horror vibe instead of the normal black robes and skulls, as I felt it was overdone.

DIGITAL ILLUSTRATIONS

The Grim Potions

This will be an ongoing passion project of mine that I wanted to do for a long time! It is to design and illustrate a bunch of potion designs, and the key aspect is for me to practice my materials/shape language and colors. So this is the first wave of potions that I came up with, they are carved and protected by shrapnels of metals and raw materials to make them look more battle-ready to be used in war. I was inspired by the World Of Warcraft Warlords of Draenor for the color scheme and designs. For the style, I wanted to emulate a more stylized and hearthstone kind of rendering, in order to push the silhouettes and craziness of this project. I really had a lot of fun doing this and look forward to seeing more crazy designs that I have in mind!

FOR THE CORE

This is a splash piece I did for my 3D character Haldir I went through a few variations of lighting and compositions to showcase the most epic fantasy of him. My goal is to emulate a splash piece from League of Legends, the quality is certainly not there yet but it was really a blast to render this into fruition and learn a lot along the way.

CLASH OF THE GODS

For this piece, I wanted to replicate a hearthstone kind of illustration. However, instead of doing orcs, and goblins, I decided to design Aztec gods and illustrate them fighting in the temple while the human worshippers cheered for their respective gods For the character design, I referenced a very old cartoon called mummies alive, where each mummy get their individual powers from the Egyptian animal gods. I really love the character design of them and I used that as a base Overall, I really enjoyed doing this piece as it pushes me to use more saturated colors.

THE LAST STAND

This piece was inspired by the famous Japanese yokai Rokuro Kubi. I wanted to put a backstory to this piece, portraying that it broke out of its shrine prison and the last guardian monk is taking his last stand to fight the beast. I always had a fascination with creatures and monsters so doing this piece was really fun and I was able to practice my ambiance and mood.

MAGICAL BOOK

This piece was inspired by the art syle of hearthstone, hence I was trying to emulate their contrasting color schemes and rendering style.
