Activision Blizzard Files Its Own Appeal Against CMA's Block

The Call of Duty maker says the UK's regulator "ignores the facts, the law, and all commercial reality."

Last week, Microsoft officially filed an appeal in an attempt to overturn the decision made by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that prevented the proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard and made its appeal arguments available to the public on Monday.

Now, Activision Blizzard announced that it filed its own appeal against the decision of the UK's regulator. The company shared this news with GamesIndustry.biz.

The company stated that the CMA's ruling "ignores the facts, the law, and all commercial reality" and that Activision now aims to collaborate with Microsoft "to get this deeply flawed decision reversed."

At present, the specific arguments presented in Activision Blizzard's appeal are not yet available. However, Microsoft has stated in its appeal that the British regulator has overestimated the importance of cloud gaming and has provided an inaccurate definition of the market situation. The UK Competition Court of Appeal (CAT) has scheduled the main hearing for Microsoft's appeal to start on July 24, 2023.

Earlier, it was reported that the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard has been approved in South Korea.
