Build Your Own Game With This Godot-based 3D Internet-inspired Browser

The developers of TheGates, an open-source 2D and 3D internet browser built with Godot Engine, have released a new customizable sandbox multiplayer game template with voice chat support.

Inspired by Ready Player One, TheGates is a relatively new project connecting game experiences together like the World Wide Web and allowing you to easily access them without installing. The idea is to create a space where many different worlds would be connected together into one universe and these worlds could be freely hosted by everyone,

TheGates is very similar to how we use the Internet: you type a link of the world you wanna visit and TheGates browser downloads all the necessary files and opens it.

Inside this world, you can find other links and portals and follow them to travel to the next one.

To host your project, you need to make sure it's compatible with Godot Engine 4.2. TheGates has a step-by-step instruction for those who wish to add their own game and includes a download link for the demo project to use as an example.

Here are some very diverse games you can play in TheGates browser:

The developers have also released a Godot 4 template with ready-to-go client-server multiplayer and voice chat support. It features a third-person camera, voice-over with 3D positioning, UI for changing names, tweaking voice volume, and is fully ready to be customized to your needs.
