The developer at Halo Infinite support studio Certain Affinity Mike Clopper called the unreleased Halo Infinite Battle Royale mode a "game-changer."
On his LinkedIn profile, the developer shared that he had led a large team of designers working on a canceled Battle Royale mode for Halo. He said that the title could have been an immense success: "I believe this product could have been a game changer for the franchise. We loved playing it and working on it was a fantastic experience in spite of its cancelation."
Certain Affinity co-developed Halo 4 and was responsible for Halo 2's multiplayer DLC. Clopper worked at the studio for more than 15 years. This month, he started working as a Studio Design Director at Raven Software.
There were rumors about the potential release of Halo Infinite Battle Royale mode. Back in 2022, it was reportedly in development under the code name "Tatanka," and there were even speculations that it might be ported to Unreal Engine 5 instead of the Slipspace Engine. However, this January, the mode was canceled. Halo developer 343 Studios, recently rebranded as Halo Studios, indeed switched from Slipspace to Unreal Engine 5 and has numerous UE5-powered games in the works.
