Former BioWare Writer Wants to See a Remaster of Dragon Age: Origins

At the same time, ex-BioWare producer Mark Darrah claims that it would be challenging to create a new version of the game.

Former BioWare writer David Gaider has recently taken to Twitter to share that he would like to see the remaster of Dragon Age: Origins, with "brand new PS5-era bells and whistles."

According to the writer, the 2009 RPG's graphics were outdated even upon its initial release, so the remaster will totally make sense. Replying to Gaider's tweet, one of his former colleagues noted that the game was already complex, so he doubted that the game can carry "any more bells and whistles."

Gaider, in turn, added that for the remaster, Dragon Age: Inquisition-level graphics, fixes for female models, and additional work on bed scenes would be enough.

Speaking of female models, Gaider noted that he wanted that Morrigan wouldn't have "the shoulders of a linebacker." He later explained that all female models in Dragon Age: Origins used the male animation rig and although Morrigan's animation was changed slightly to match her slender frame, he admits that he "can't unsee the change."

"Did Morrigan still look great in DAO? Sure. Could there have been more body types throughout DA for both sexes, including even broader shoulders? That would have been great, but the modelers and animators were limited by the variety of rigs available," Gaider said.

Former Dragon Age producer Mark Darrah also touched upon the subject of remasters and remakes in his recent video. According to him, it may be challenging to re-release Dragon Age: Origins as a simple remaster might not be sufficient for an RPG, while a full-fledged remake would require significantly more investment and notable changes to the gameplay and story.

BioWare is currently working on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. The game will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, although the release date has not been revealed yet.
