How It Started Vs. How It's Going: Indie Devs Showcase Their Work

Check out indie ray tracing, custom Unity shader, and cute and imaginary worlds of indie games.

Indie developers started a new trend on Twitter and shared their progress in the development of their games. The two short clips of the same in-game scene demonstrate the changes in visuals, mechanics, and level of detail.

Yellow Brick Games, the developer of Eternal Strands, which you can see in the post above, showed how the brick wall was transformed into a realistic sand rock with complex lighting and lifelike physics. The character, which in the first clip was just a prop, also changed drastically.

MythicOwl showcased the progress of work on their car delivery action-adventure Truckful. Recently, the team showed how they added to the game's visuals what they called an "indie ray tracing." In fact, it is a second camera below the subject is positioned to capture an inverted view.

Another indie game that you can see in the post above is Caravan SandWitch, an adventure set in a sci-fi Provence-like post-apocalypse world, which was released in September.

Eat Pant Games also showcased stages of the work on their platformer Teeto, in which an adorable little character absorbs the environment. Recently, we've covered a heartwarming story of how the game's developer surprised his girlfriend and colleague by proposing to her right within the game during a multiplayer mode test.

Brute Force is the developer of Paper Sky, a Unity-powered adventure game in which you explore said world either as a paper plane or a rolling paper ball. The developer created a custom Unity shader, which allows for visualization of a realistic trail on the sand.
