Nintendo Acquires CG Animation Studio Dynamo Pictures

When the deal is closed, the company will focus on the "development of visual content" using Nintendo IP.

Today, Nintendo announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire the Japanese CG animation studio Dynamo Pictures. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to a press release, the acquisition is expected to close on October 3, 2022. When the deal is complete, Dynamo Pictures will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nintendo and will change its name to Nintendo Pictures.

After the acquisition, the new subsidiary is set to strengthen Nintendo's efforts in "planning and production of visual content including CG animation" as well as "focus on development of visual content utilizing Nintendo IP."

Dynamo Pictures mostly focuses on creating CG for films, TV, video games, and Japanese commercials, although they also work with motion capture recording and VR content development. They also worked with Nintendo in the past including such projects as Metroid Other M and Pikmin Short Movies.

Taking into account the wide range of services Dynamo Pictures provides, it is not yet clear what type of content the company will produce for Nintendo.
