Obsidian's Upcoming RPG Avowed Will "Focus on Combat"

As the developer says, it's not the game "where you're gonna have a pure pacifist run."

Avowed, Obdisian's next first-person fantasy RPG, which is slated for release later this year, will not be "a pure pacific run", as the developer recently shared.

Talking with PC Gamer, Carrie Patel, Avowed's Game Director, said that the game isn't going to be a nonviolent experience as it focuses on combat. Well, of course, there would be ways to solve the situation and complete your quest without hurting anyone, but you'd better get yourself prepared for a fight.

"Players can expect to see solutions and opportunities to use dialogue, maybe take advantage of reactivity with regards to characters they might have helped or met earlier in," said Patel.

While Avowed won't give players a chance to follow a completely pacifist path, it seems that offering freedom in exploration and problem-solving is one of Obsidian's goals with the game.

"We're not planning on one specific linear path that players are going to take through that world. So we're trying to account for the various places they could be, and the various points of interest they might find and what they might see from there," added Patel.
