Rumor: Half-Life 3 Will Be Announced at The Game Awards

Gabe Newell will reportedly make the announcement himself.

Valve

Recently, industry insider Jason Schreier said that The Game Awards would feature two exciting announcements, and now, there's a rumor that one of them will be a reveal of Valve's Half-Life 3.

Former Apple employee Nima Zeighami, now working in the AI and XR industry, says that Gabe Newell will announce the long-anticipated game himself: "The rumor I heard, and I am not kidding here, is that Gabe will be there to announce Half-Life 3." However, Zeighami added that he doesn't believe it himself, but there's a chance that it might be one of the announcements that Jason Schreier was talking about.

The rumor sounds very encouraging, as fans have been waiting for the next installment of the beloved franchise for a long time. The previous game in the narrative, Half-Life 2, was released 20 years ago. In the meantime, fan-made versions of Half-Life 3 emerged, such as Project Borealis and Half-Life: Interlude. However, there were rumors that the official game continuing Half-Life 2's story would be released, and it was said that Valve was working on a new game in which you play as Half-Life iconic protagonist Gordon Freeman, even if it wouldn't be called Half-Life 3. Also, there were other hints that the game might be in the works. Hopefully, in the end, the beloved title will see the light of day, even if it is not to be announced at the upcoming event.

The Game Awards

The Game Awards will take place on December 12 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and will stream live on Thursday, December 12, with the Opening Act starting at 7:30p ET / 4:30p PT. This year, the show celebrates its 10th anniversary and opens its doors to more formats of game-related content, allowing DLC, remakes, and remasters to compete for all the categories.
