The Evil Within and Hi-Fi Rush Creator Shinji Mikami Is Reportedly Leaving Tango Gameworks

Tango Gameworks will continue to work on supporting Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush.

Shinji Mikami, founder and CEO of Tango Gameworks, is reportedly leaving the studio after over 12 years.

According to TrueAchievements, the news was revealed by Bethesda senior vice president Todd Vaughn in an internal letter to ZeniMax employees obtained by the website.

"I am writing today to let you know that studio head Shinji Mikami has decided to leave Tango Gameworks in the coming months," Vaughn reportedly wrote. "Mikami-san has been a creative leader and supportive mentor to young developers at Tango for 12 years through his work on the Evil Within franchise, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and of course, Hi-Fi Rush."

As per TrueAchievements' report, Tango Gameworks will continue to provide support for Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush, while Bethesda executives will collaborate with Tango leadership on the studio's next steps.

Mikami started his game development career at Capcom in 1990 contributing to many of the company's most successful titles including the Resident Evil franchise and the first installment of the Dino Crisis series.

In 2010, Mikami directed the third-person shooter Vanquish while working at PlatinumGames. That same year, he founded Tango Gameworks, which was later acquired by ZeniMax Media.

During his time at Tango Gameworks, he directed 2014's The Evil Within as well as its 2017's sequel. More recently, Mikami served as an executive producer on Ghostwire: Tokyo and the Game Pass sensation Hi-Fi Rush.
