Stop-Motion Pokémon Concierge Series Is Heading to Netflix

The upcoming Pokémon series from Netflix will be an animated stop-motion adventure, taking place in a luxurious hotel for Pokémon and their owners.

During yesterday's Pokémon Presents live stream, The Pokémon Company announced that it has teamed up with Netflix to release a stop-motion series based on the Pokémon franchise called Pokémon Concierge.

According to Netflix’s vice president of content for the Asia-Pacific region Minyoung Kim, the series is set to feature an entirely new story that will "expand the Pokémon universe." The show will follow a girl named Haru who is a concierge at the Pokémon Resort and focus on her interactions with both Pokémon and their owners who come to the resort.

"We have a group of experts here in Japan who are passionate about finding and developing original stories from Japan that can excite audiences all over the world, and we are dedicated to adapting fan-favorite stories and manga into extraordinary shows," Kim said. "With this title, we've decided to marry an entirely new storyline that expands the Pokémon universe with groundbreaking stop-motion animation."

The show will be created by Netflix in cooperation with Dwarf Studio, the animation studio that also previously created Netflix's stop-motion animation Rilakkuma and Kaoru.

Netflix released a short teaser trailer of the show offering a glimpse of a Psyduck strolling along the seashore as well as showing a static image of Haru. However, the details on the upcoming show are still scarce and it's not clear when Pokémon Concierge is scheduled to release.
