Twinmotion 2024.1 Is Now Available

Highlights include new animation sequencing tools, support for render layers, smart foliage from imported assets, rendering enhancements, and more.

Following the Preview shared a month ago, Twinmotion 2024.1 has finally arrived with a number of new tools and enhancements for artists across industries – architects, filmmakers, product designers, and beyond.

The key features of this release are the Render Layers system, allowing one to separate the elements of the scene with Layer IDs and export them as up to five separate render layers for compositing and post-production enhancements, and Animation sequencing tools, enabling the creation of intricate videos that synchronize with animated files with the new Sequence media type, Action Cam camera, and Media Preview Window.

Want more variety in your environment as it changes over the year? Now, you can import your own asset and apply the new Foliage master material to it, control wind, seasonal color change, leaf loss, and snow accumulation, supporting a wide range of tree species.

Separate materials also can be applied to foliage, blossoms, and fruit, giving full control over the timing of these elements.

With new Scattering Spacing and Area tools that define areas and create paths, you'll be able to populate your scene more quickly. Once the areas are defined, they are automatically filled with your selected assets, providing you full control over their position and enabling to adjust density, randomness, and other factors to your liking.

Another materials update includes new Fabric master material, allowing you to simulate a wide range of textiles, including cotton, linen, silk, wool, polyester, and velvet. There are ten new fabrics in the Twinmotion library to get you started.

With Twinmotion 2024.1, filmmakers can now constrain the camera view to match the sensor or film frame dimensions of common real-world cameras, as well as using custom values for the height and width.

This release also sees a variety of performance improvements for both Lumen and the Path Tracer. Lumen receives support for more lights and higher-fidelity results with translucent meshes, meanwhile, the Path Tracer sees optimizations for shader compilation, decals, and volumetric fog.
