Breakdown: Setting Up a Skin Shader in Unreal Engine 5

Helena Hansen shared a lengthy breakdown, explaining how to get as much control over skin shading as possible using UE5 only.

A few days ago, Technical Artist Helena Hansen, whose incredible rain shader was featured back in 2022 here on 80 Level, published a detailed breakdown explaining the techniques and methods for creating a realistic skin shader entirely in Unreal Engine 5.

Featuring a detailed overview, which demonstrates how the setup works, and lots of Material Editor graphs, the breakdown shows how to get as much control over skin shading as possible and set up a shader that could fit any model with the same UV-set. Additionally, with this tutorial, you will learn how to add optional rain as a switch that could be turned on and off. You can check out the full breakdown by visiting the author's ArtStation blog.
