Capilano University Offers Micro-Credentials in Visual Production and Animation

The programs are aimed at working professionals who are looking to expand their expertise in virtual production and 2D animation. 

Capilano University, a teaching-focused public university that offers programs in animation, gaming, TV, and motion picture studies, announced two new micro-credentials which are aimed at working professionals who have some experience in digital production for entertainment industry.

The micro-credentials (Virtual Production and 2D Animation Using Harmony) are offered by Capilano University Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts in coordination with CapU Continuing Studies and are available in part-time formats to allow the full-time workers to meet their needs.

Virtual Production is aimed at 3D or Visual Effects artists with two to five years of experience working in streaming, animation, film, or games who would like to expand their opportunities by incorporating real-time production techniques. The micro-credential offers training on using Unreal Engine in a number of ways including asset building, lighting, and character integration.

This program offers four courses: Cross Training and Asset Build, Lighting and Live Camera Assets, Virtual Production: Character Performance, and Virtual Production: Project Shoot. Each course lasts for about two weeks and costs $520 (+GST) each. 

2D Animation Using Harmony offers is a program for animators who have relevant experience working in the animation or VFX industry and who are looking to expand their expertise as well as port their existing skills to the Toon Boom Harmony workflow. 

This micro-credential consists of two 30-hour, non-credit courses – Toon Boom Harmony Software Introduction and 2D Animation Using Harmony: Becoming a Harmony Animator – which are offered at $998 (+GST) each. Both courses will be delivered online via weekly online live meetings.

According to Capilano University, the programs will be led by seasoned industry professionals and will offer a 50% discount in tuition for under-represented groups.
